Multiplication Strategy

Last week our class was doing problem solving. We were learning how to solve multiplication problems by using different strategies.

Here is one of the problems that I solved with my maths mate Noah.

"Mrs Meaclem needed to know how many children are in Cracroft and Heathcote, if every class in the school (19 in total) had 16 children in those house groups. How many altogether?"

Noah and I decided to use the strategy of place value.
16x19=?
16x10=160
19x9=144
160+144=304
