Stepping into the Shoes of James.K.Baxter

Stepping into the Shoes of James.K.Baxter

Hi everyone out there! I hope that you're having a awesome day so far!πŸ˜€
You might be wondering who James.K.Baxter is? Well actually he is one of the most famous writers of all time! One of the poems that he is famous for is called My Town! The one that I wrote is called My thinking tree (Of course it is his town, not mine!) The success criteria is something that we have to have, or similar. If you see the highlighted words, that means that I have proof that I have completed that thing on the list.
This is a link so that you can read his poem... My Town
And this is mine...

My Thinking Tree

My thinking tree was usual Enough

It had spongy grass, tangled branches, a clear blue Sky

With the sun twinkling over It, and even a black cat Perched

On the lower Branches

I tried only once to do that Though.

My cat friend and I

Did what best friends Do - lay with our heads Together

Thinking, the cat ate my crazily thick Hair, chased Sticks,

Called for the smokey grey kitten next-door to come Over

To our house

Lay on the soft grass tired of the exciting Stuff

That we had done that Day

Cuddled or Explored
Doing nothing Important.

Success Criteria:  “I will know when I am successful when I have…”
  • Selected a place that is personally significant✓
  • Begun with The………….was usual enough
  • Listed at least 5 nouns related to the place✓
  • Listed 5 actions using STRONG verbs✓
  • Included Did what boys/girls do-between the nouns and actions✓
  • Concluded with Doing Nothing Important or Similar✓

I hope that you liked my poem and if you have written a
poem almost like it, feel free to comment and share it
with me!

Problem Solving

Last week our class was doing some problem solving. We were learning how to solve subtraction problems by using different strategies.

Here is one of my questions that I solved with my maths mate.
Jasmine has $52 and she gives her sister Ruby $48. How much money does Jasmine have left?

I have decided to use the strategies place value and equal adjustment. Here is my equal adjustment strategy:

52 - 48
-2 -2
50 - 46 = 4

And this is my place value strategy:

52 - 48
52 - 40 = 12
12 - 8 = 4

So that means that the answer is... 4
I hope that you agree with my strategies and If you don't,
then you can comment why you don't like my strategies!
I also hope that you learned something from me today!

Zentangle Art

In my class this term we have been doing Zentangle art. We made the piece of artwork so that the zentangle bits could fit inside a hand shape.
Here are some links so that you can try Zentangle art for yourself!πŸ˜„

I Am

Hi Everyone!πŸ˜€
Welcome Back to reading my Blog!
Hope you've had a fabulous weekend and ready to start a new week!
Recently our class has been writing I am poems for the NZ get writing thing for NZ schools. An I Am poem is a poem that tells you about someone and who they are, what they like and even some of their motto's!
This is my poem, it tells you everything about me!

I Am

A girl who has a funny sense of humour and loves to dance
I wonder
If I win my championship in the next dance competition
I hear
The audience laughing as I finish my broadway dance with a stunning pose
I see
My friends coming to congratulate me as I come of the creaky stage
I want
To make it into the New Zealand school of dance
I am
A girl who has a funny sense of humor and loves to dance

I pretend
That I am a famous dancer, dancing my heart away at the New Zealand School of Dance
I feel
As though I’m a ribbon swaying delicately in the air
I touch
The creaky floorboards as I float over them
I worry
About how much the judge will like my dance
I cry
Happy tears of joy as I walk onto the stage to claim my prize
I am
A girl who has a funny sense of humor and loves to dance

I understand
That everybody doesn't always win
I say
“Dancing is just like dreaming with your feet”
I dream
About being a famous dancer with my very own dance studio, so that I can teach kids to dance and to follow their passion
I try
To work my hardest to become a famous dancer
I hope
That I will get into the New Zealand School of Dance when I’m older
I am
A girl who has a funny sense of humor and loves to dance
I Am Kaylin.

Holiday @ Quinney's Bush

This is my Holiday Writing. As you can see, I am at Quinney's Bush.
The person sitting next to me is my best friend Zoe.
One morning when Zoe came over my mum said to us that we were basically attached at the hip!
That tells you how great friends Zoe and I are!
Here is the link so that you can check out
the Quinney's Bush website!

Have you ever been to Quinney's Bush?

I heard…
Screaming as a little kid slid down the GIANT waterslide.

I heard…
People’s bike tyres screeching on the gravel as they casually biked down the path.

I saw…
The burning fires smoking in front of all of the tents.

I felt…
Like exploring at night because that would be way more exciting than in the daytime.

I wondered…
If the blazing fire would burn me to death (Dun, dun, dun!)

I wondered…
When we would go on the night trail with Zoe’s family.

I hope that you enjoyed reading my poem!😜
